At Good Reason Houston, our goal is to make sure every student in every classroom in every Houston public school is greeted each day by an amazing teacher who is getting all the support they need.

That means recruitment, mentorship and training, leadership skills and teacher appreciation, and so much more. Our District Support Team provides coaching to districts to implement successful teacher recruitment initiatives, professional development opportunities, and leadership opportunities.

Opportunity Culture

Opportunity Culture is a national program with an innovative approach to teacher development and staffing, led by Public Impact in over 45 districts and charter school organizations. Together with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Houston Endowment, Good Reason Houston is supporting training for Aldine ISD and Klein ISD and their university partners to design and implement the Opportunity Culture model. Along with the training provided to districts by Public Impact, US Prep will support University of Houston, University of Houston-Downtown, and Sam Houston State University to place teacher residents in Opportunity Culture campuses.

Teacher Recruitment

Good Reason Houston partners with TEACH for Houston to offer a region-wide, online teacher recruitment platform. Interested candidates are supplied with resources including one-on-one advising, scholarships, and application tools to apply to an educator preparation program. Since 2019, over 700 users applied to high-quality preparation programs. 77% of those users identified as people of color.

To ensure that teachers are prepared for the challenges and opportunities in Houston classrooms, we must take bold and innovative approaches to recruiting and developing teachers. Good Reason Houston is proud to partner with districts and high-quality educator preparation programs to ensure a pipeline of strong, diverse future teachers through grow-your-own teacher pathways and teacher residencies!
