POLICY & ADVOCACY
We advocate for public policies in order to create conditions for our schools and children to succeed.
For the 2019 legislative session, Good Reason Houston has joined with other education organizations across Texas to advocate for policies around public school finance reform, early childhood learning, strategic compensation for teachers, and trauma and toxic stress training for educators.
GOOD REASON HOUSTON’S 2019 LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES
Provide additional and equitable formula funding into the public school finance system.
Strategically invest in critical academic points known to yield the greatest student outcomes.
Incentivize school districts to locally develop and implement an optional multi-measure evaluation system and receive additional state funding to better prepare, retain, and strategically staff their most effective teachers.
Support students’ safety and social-emotional learning by requiring teacher and counselor training on best instructional practices for students experiencing trauma and toxic stress.
Grow the supply and retention of a well-trained, effective early childhood workforce, and provide sufficient training to improve the efficacy of existing early childhood teachers.
Adequately resource and sustain an affordable and accessible supply of high-quality early childhood care centers.
