Citywide Coalition on Education

Mobiling organizations across Houston to advance the use of research-based educational policies and practices that are informed by the community

Good Reason Houston is a member of the Steering Committee for the Citywide Coalition on Education, which unites business and community organizations to address pressing educational issues in Houston. The Coalition champions an education-focused agenda, ensuring all students have the opportunity to thrive.

Key initiatives include:

  • Empowering diverse education-focused organizations to lead change aligned with the Coalition’s priorities.

  • Promoting policies that enhance educational pathways and opportunities for students in the Houston area.

  • Supporting local school systems in engaging stakeholders to shape and implement policies that meet community needs and improve student experiences.

Good Reason Houston has partnered with the College Football Playoff Foundation (CFPF), a nonprofit sports entity devoted to supporting educators — the largest, in fact!

Together with our growing number of campaign partners throughout the city, we bring you Houston Loves Teachers: a citywide outreach and support effort for educators, both present and future. We want to recruit the best teacher talent to Houston and help current teachers thrive in Houston by providing opportunities for professional growth and recognition for the positive impact you have on our students and families.

“Pre-K Houston” is an initiative led by education non profit Good Reasn Houston aimed at promoting pre-K enrollment, particularly within the Houston Independent School District (HISD), Alief ISD, Spring ISD, and Aldine ISD. They serve as a valuable resource for parents of students eligible to attend Pre-K.

Good Reason Houston’s objective with the “Pre-K Houston” campaign is to capitalize on the regional push for pre-K enrollment, specifically prioritizing enrollment in target neighborhoods through community events. Here are some key aspects of our initiative and why we would like to request media to maximize its impact.

This event aims to engage families and promote the significance of early childhood education along with access to community health organizations, resources, family friendly activities and more.

Key Initiatives Include:

  • Increase Enrollment: 6 in 10 eligible students are not enrolled; those who participate are 2.5 times more likely to be kindergarten-ready.

  • Currently, only 38% of eligible students are enrolled, with a goal to increase enrollment to 50% (8,500 students) over the next three years.

  • Simplify Enrollment: Streamlining processes to facilitate easier enrollment for parents.
