Good Reason Houston Reacts to Houston ISD Accountability Data

CEO: HISD transformation is not yet ‘mission accomplished’ but the district is on the right path

HOUSTON – August 7, 2024 – Houston ISD announced an early look at its A-F Accountability ratings Wednesday and Good Reason Houston, a nonprofit founded to increase the number of students learning in great public schools, is inspired by the district’s reported results. In just one year the district has significantly improved the quality of its schools, increasing its number of A and B rated schools from 93 to 170 while reducing the number of D or F rated campuses from 121 to 41.

“At Good Reason Houston, we are dedicated to making Houston the leading city for public education in the nation and these positive results from HISD are a promising indication that the district is on the right path, ensuring that every child in every neighborhood has access to excellent public schools,” Good Reason Houston CEO Cary Wright said. “HISD’s progress is truly commendable, and a testament to the incredible work of the district’s students, teachers, and campus leaders.”

Wright emphasized that HISD’s effort to enhance the quality of schools available to every child in every neighborhood is outstanding.

“While the transformation of HISD is not yet ‘mission accomplished,’ let’s celebrate these remarkable achievements in education and take pride as a city that nearly 200,000 children will benefit from the improvement of our state’s largest public school system” Wright said.

Following the state’s planned release of all data Aug. 15, Good Reason Houston will provide more extensive analysis of Accountability results across the Houston region.
