2025 State Legislative Policy Priorities

Creating an ecosystem that supports policy focused on high quality education experiences for all

Good Reason Houston’s professional policy specialists work alongside communities, district leadership, school boards, and legislators to make systemic improvements to public education in Houston through policy.

Good Reason Houston engages stakeholders at all levels to help drive policy related to the following areas proven to improve student outcomes.

Strategically Invest in Funding Streams to Support Public Education

Ensure public school systems have the financial resources they need to meet student learning needs and drive post-secondary success, including strategic investments in data-backed, student-focused reforms originally introduced by HB 3 (86R) that are designed to improve student outcomes.

Drive Outcomes-Aligned Postsecondary Readiness in Public Education

Set graduates up for postsecondary success by incentivizing robust college, career, and military readiness pathways in K-12 programming that align with postsecondary opportunities in high-wage, high-demand industries.

Strengthen our Pipeline for Effective Educators

Cultivate and retain a workforce of education professionals by incentivizing rigorous preparation pathways, recognizing and investing in highly effective educators, and supporting ongoing professional development.

Retain a Fair, Rigorous, and Transparent Academic Assessment and Accountability System:

Ensure students, families, and communities have access to a robust and transparent academic accountability system – one that measures student academic success, public school quality, and illuminates where to target needed resources.

Build Strong Foundations with High Quality Early Learning

Increase resources for high-quality early education programs and incentivize the use of research-backed classroom tools designed to promote effective, engaging interactions and environments foundational to early learning.
