Houston Students Miss Out On Safe, Healthy Learning Environments Due to Bond Vote Outcome

HOUSTON – November 5, 2024 – In an outcome that will have profound implications for the future of public education in our city, the Houston ISD bond did not pass. Good Reason Houston is disheartened by this result, as it is a decision to maintain the status quo rather than invest in safer, healthier, and more advanced learning environments for students and teachers.

“We are deeply disappointed that the HISD bond measure did not pass, as we firmly believe in providing Houston’s students and educators with the facilities, safety measures, and technology they need to thrive. This outcome means we must continue to work within the current insufficient infrastructure, even though we know students deserve and need more,” said Cary Wright, CEO of Good Reason Houston. “Our commitment to Houston’s children remains steadfast. We stand ready to collaborate with community leaders, educators, and families to explore other ways of ensuring our schools receive the resources necessary to create safe, healthy, and modern learning environments. Houston’s future depends on our collective ability to support the growth and success of every child. Together, we will keep working toward solutions that bring meaningful improvements to our schools that support and empower our city’s teachers and students.”

Good Reason Houston remains dedicated to advocating for student-centered policies and initiatives that create positive change for every child in every neighborhood of Houston.
