At Good Reason Houston, we’re committed to shaping systems that drive student success and long-term opportunity. That’s why we’re actively engaging in Houston ISD’s 2025–2026 budget process—because how resources are allocated now will impact students, families, and communities for years to come.
This budget cycle is a critical moment. The Superintendent must align limited funds with the board’s goals, and the stakes are high. We’ve partnered with civic leaders and community organizations to ensure that equity and student needs remain front and center.
In a joint letter to HISD leadership, we urged the district to prioritize student-centered, equity-focused investments. We also participated in Funding Our Future: A School Budget Conversation, where community members took on the roles of board members and administrators to confront real budget trade-offs. Top priorities identified—early learning, college and career readiness, and teacher compensation—highlight the importance of data-driven, student-first decisions.
With the final HISD budget workshop on May 22 and the vote on June 12, now is the time to make your voice heard.
At Good Reason Houston, we’ll keep pushing for budgets that put students first—and we invite you to join us. Our kids deserve nothing less.
