Good Reason Houston surprises educators across city as part of Houston Loves Teachers campaign during Teacher Appreciation Week

Good Reason Houston’s Houston Loves Teachers campaign is dedicated to supporting and celebrating teachers all year, but Teacher Appreciation Week gives us a chance to go big — big treats, big surprises, and big checks (literally!). It’s only fitting considering the big effort educators pour into Houston students every day.

During Teacher Appreciation week, we visited more than 15 campuses in several districts including Aldine ISD, Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, Houston ISD, Pasadena ISD, Spring Branch ISD, and more. The highlight of delivering coffee trucks, school supplies, development opportunities and checks is always the joy and moment of lightness from teachers.

“I love celebrating teachers, elevating their stories, and rallying Houston to stand with them,” said Stefanie Cruz, Managing Director of Houston Loves Teachers. “When we show up—even with something small—teachers light up. They feel seen, valued, and reminded that their work matters. These moments spark a movement where appreciation isn’t rare, it’s expected. And that’s exactly what our educators deserve.”

As part of Good Reason Houston’s Schools That Inspires initiative, Cruz distributed more than $12,000 to educators at Melillo Middle School, Nitsch Elementary School, Harmony School of Fine Arts and Technology, and Laurenzo Early Childhood Education Center.

“Teachers are the single most important in-school factor affecting student achievement,” Cruz said. “When teachers thrive, students succeed. They’re the backbone of our education system, and investing in them is one of the smartest ways to invest in Houston’s future. If we want this city to lead, we have to lead with strong, supported educators.”
