Tracking milestones that shape Houston’s future

From the first day of pre-K to the first day on the job, Good Reason Houston tracks indicators across each campus to ensure Houston’s students are on a path to earn a living wage.

The Problem and The Result

Out of every 100 Houston graduates:

Eighty out of a hundred will not.

The Problem and The Result

74 ready for college or career

The Problem and The Result

27 complete higher education

The Problem and The Result

Only 20 earn a living wage

The Result:

Fewer skilled workers, fewer families with real options, and a city where opportunity shrinks instead of grows.

The Solution

Instead of test scores and graduation rates alone, systems must prioritize indicators that prepare students for high-demand, high-wage jobs after high school.

Good Reason Houston tracks the following: Pre-K enrollment, kindergarten readiness, reading and math in Grades 1-3, reading and math in Grades 4-8, Algebra End-of-Course test takers in Grade 8, End-of-Course reading and math achievement, postsecondary readiness, high school graduation, postsecondary enrollment, postsecondary completion, and living wage attainment.
