Good Reason Houston was honored Thursday with the Community Leadership Award by the Houston Business Journal, recognizing organizations working to improve lives across Greater Houston through hrough work that moves the needle for kids and families.

This recognition reflects something bigger than any one organization. It reflects what’s possible when Houston comes together around a shared goal for kids.

Over the past several years, educators, families, civic leaders, and employers across our region have aligned around a simple but powerful idea: success in school should lead to success in life. Together, we’ve worked to focus on the milestones that matter most — from pre-K to paycheck — because they are directly tied to whether students will one day earn a living wage.

That alignment is driving real progress. Today, 145,000 more students are learning in A- or B-rated schools, and more students are meeting grade-level standards than ever before. And our research has helped the region confront a hard truth: only 1 in 5 Houston students earns a living wage by their mid-20s. That clarity has helped shift how our city defines success — and what we’re doing about it.

“This belongs to every partner, educator, and student working toward a better future for Houston kids. Houston’s future is sitting in our classrooms today. What too many of our young people are still missing is a clear, supported path to a living wage. Good Reason Houston exists to change that. I’m proud to accept this on behalf of our organization at a moment when Houston is ready to demand more for its kids,” said Courtney Isaak Pichon, CEO of Good Reason Houston.

We’re proud of the progress and even more committed to what comes next.
