Today marks the first day of the 89th Texas Legislative Session. We are starting off the biennial session with over 2,300 pre-filed bills, over 500 of which focus on public education. With so many moving parts, In Session will provide legislative updates, spotlight key bills impacting public education, and offer opportunities to engage.
In terms of what to expect in January, the Texas House is kicks off by electing a new Speaker today. As the leader of the chamber, the Speaker will oversee the legislative process by assigning committees and selecting committee chairmen. Like prior legislative years, it is likely we will see Senate committee assignments before the House. The House Public Education Committee and the Senate Education Committees will play key roles driving public education policy. Be sure to follow us on social media for real-time updates.
