October 10, 2022 – Good Reason Houston hosted a day of community service with Madres Del Parque at Burnett Bayland Park, in observance of Hispanic Heritage Month. Blueprint For Change Coalition members – Houston Community College, Mi Familia Vota, Coding With a Twist, LLC., BakerRipley, Link Houston, and MIG/City of Houston – also joined to support and provided resources for Gulfton families.
The day of service consisted of the following highlights:
- More than 40 volunteers participated, including students from Middle College High School, to help with the park’s beautification and cleanup.
- Gulfton students engaged and participated in STEM experiments with Coding with a Twist.
- Good Reason Houston provided over 120 at-home COVID kits to Gulfton community members, supplied by partners at Harris County Public Health, and also provided lunch to more than 80 community members from locally-owned Pizza Patron.
- Partners provided resources to the Gulfton community, such as access to public transportation advocacy tools (Link Houston), community programming (BakerRipley), voter registration and information (Mi Familia Vota), and tools to understand the developing landscape of the Gulfton area (MIG/City of Houston).
